Wine Hampers

It seems that, in Germany, if you ask for a glass of wine, more often than not you will be brought a glass of something dry or Trocken and not the deliciously grapey wines of tradition. I have for years spurned the Trocken styles, believing them to be old-fashioned wines with the fun sucked out of them. My recent visit has forced me to re-evaluate my position and admit that there are some rather fine wines being made.

A real mix of flavours and styles here - enjoy discovering the grape variety Mencia from Spain, alongside some classics from Bordeaux and the Rhone.

Sometimes a whole bottle is just too much, especially for one or two people. This is an excellent case to keep in the cupboard as there's a huge variety of wines here to suit all tastes.

We have two wines here from the sandled Guy Chaumont, who's been making lovely organic wines from his home town in Rosey for years. A St Veran from young, award-winning Denis Jeandeau and a St Romain pair (red and white) from Renaud Boyer. Domaine Parent supply us with a food-friendly Monthelie, delightful with roast duck.

We have real variety here. A lovely Monastrell from Telmo Rodriguez; two Rhones from the Perrin brothers; two wines from the island of Sicily; and the award-winning Con Class from Spain. Something for everyone to enjoy.
